moultrie D40 trail camera, can I use 12 volt power supply?

I have a Moultrie D40 Trail Camera. I’ve read online some people have used a 12 volt power supply.

Does anybody know the polarity on the external 12 volt power supply?

I am looking to make my own power cables but I am not sure if the male connector in the camera is positive or negative.

I decided to make it because I purchased a connector from Cabelas but it didn’t fit my model as it stated online, I would like to just purchase one, but doesn’t look like its possible.

Any information or suggestions is appreciated!

I went to Moultrie and had them provide a schematic of my cameras. From there I put rechargeable batteries and a solar panel on the camera. I went online and called their customer service number to get the drawings. I have some other cameras that I went into and just added rechargeable batteries to and ran the wires from a solar panel up into the camera on the battery connections and use it as a trickle charger. All I have to do then is swap out the SD cards when I check them.

    Hello,

I am the marketing manager for Moultrie. Your question can be found in our FAQ section at http://www.moultriefeeders.com. Unfortunately, the D-40 is not compatible with a regular solar panel or 12-volt battery. Please see the explanation below:

Moultrie Game Spy cameras made after 2007(operating on 6 D-cell batteries) have an external power port, which only accepts Moultrie’s PowerPanel. This is a combination solar panel and 12-volt battery. NOTE: Using an external battery other than the PowerPanel on 2007 and later cameras will void the camera’s warranty.

    Hope this helps!

I have a MOULTRIE MFH-DGW-4.0 and took it to Radioshack to see if I could get an AC power supply so I could just plug my camera into a standard 110 outlet. We determined it was a Postitive Tip and got it to run off a 9v 800mA AC to DC adapter.

I also tested the flash and it did work however the batter percentage dropped considerably. I contacted Moultrie via email on their website and thier response was merely stating that using a different power supply would viod the warrenty.

The external power supply whether it be the solar pack or a AC to DC converter DOES NOT re-charge any batteries (this was on the Moultrie FAQ off their website). You do not even need batteries in the camera for it to work if it is using an alternative power supply.

Does anyone know how much Voltage and Amperage the camera should take?

I’ve just come across this post looking for the same thing – seeing the entry on the radio shack power supply I remembered that I have one – but mine is a 12 1000ma device and guess what – it worked and provides 99% battery power. I think that is the highest it can show. Anyways I ran a 24 hour test in my house catching the cats at night coming to their food bowl – it worked fine.
